Hello! My name is Angelia Meyer. I am an Occupational Therapist at NFI Evolutions, an intensive residential treatment program for adolescents suffering from severe mental illness in Worcester, Massachusetts. Evolutions is an organization filled with incredible, compassionate, empathic individuals who have dedicated their life’s work to aiding youth who have seen more hardship in their short lives than most will see in a lifetime.
Most of our youth here at Evolutions have been through significant traumatic experiences in childhood, have been separated from their parents, or have mental health diagnoses that have created ongoing difficulty functioning in the community. These difficulties include suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, aggression, and self-injurious behavior. Many need help in discovering and practicing positive and effective coping skills to soothe severe emotional dysregulation, trauma flashbacks, depression, and anxiety.
As an occupational therapist in this setting, my primary work is to help youth discover and practice positive coping skills so that they can be functioning, successful members of our communities. In addition to this, I consult with other members of the treatment team to develop plans that are person-centered and support normal child development to the best of our ability. I truly believe dogs have an innate ability to create an environment of calm. I hope to utilize my NEADS Assistance Dog for Therapy to bring much needed solace and comfort to our youth who often cannot manage to comfort themselves. Additionally, dogs create an urge to play in our youth. Play is the primary occupation of a child, and having the opportunity for our youth to have a play companion will be invaluable.
We are overjoyed with this opportunity to partner with NEADS to bring the much needed resource of an Assistance Dog for Therapy to our youth. We at NFI Evolutions, staff and youth alike, thank you for your donation to the NEADS organization. Your donation toward our fundraising goal will be a comfort to many adolescents and help them toward living happy, successful lives.

*NEADS clients pledge to raise a minimum of $8,000 for the organization, thus allowing us to fulfill our mission of placing Service Dogs with individuals who benefit from them the most. Each donation ensures that NEADS will continue to change lives with our World Class Service Dogs.
On our donation form, pick the name of the client you want to sponsor under the Program Menu and check whether or not we can share your contact information with the client. Client fundraising totals are manually updated weekly (not automatically) which allows 100% of each donation to be allocated towards each client’s fundraising goal.
