From: Pittsfield, MA
Program: Service Dog
Minimum Goal: $8,000 | Amount Raised:$9,673

My name is Daniel Hermanski Sr. I am sixty three years old, the father of three grown children.

For 37 years, I lived a normal life. Then in 1992, I became a paraplegic due to a stroke or bleed in a tiny blood vessel in my spinal cord. Besides paraplegia, l also have Parkinsons and became a widower in 2014.

I presently work 25 hours a week at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation,  District One in Lenox. The only way I can do this is daily help I receive from my two PCA’s, Gina and Deanna who help me get cleaned up, dressed, and fed before I drive myself to work in a van equipped with hand controls.

Now I have started the process to obtain a Service dog. The average cost of training and placing a service dog is over forty two thousand dollars. NEADS has asked me to contribute approximately $8000.00 to help offset this cost.

I try to stay active and a Service dog will greatly enhance my life. I love dogs, having had a small Lhasa for sixteen years.

I look forward to the help and companionship that a Service dog will provide.

*NEADS clients pledge to raise a minimum of $8,000 for the organization, thus allowing us to fulfill our mission of placing Service Dogs with individuals who benefit from them the most.  Each donation ensures that NEADS will continue to change lives with our World Class Service Dogs.
