Derek Blake & Jean
Program: Service Dog for Child with Autism
Minimum Goal: $800 | Amount Raised:$4,788
Our son Derek has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Disorder along with several sensory issues. Derek is a very smart tenderhearted child, but it can be challenging for him to fit in. He doesn’t understand why. It is upsetting for him and hurts him, which pains us deeply. He often struggles when entering social situations and becomes very anxious as a result.
Six months ago, Derek received a NEADS Service dog names Jean. During this time, we have seen many positive changes in areas that he struggles with. There has been a boost in his confidence. When he experiences difficulties or anxiety Jean is there for much needed comfort.
Additionally, he is learning routines, focus and staying on task longer. He has Jean to care for and he is learning not only lifetime skills but how to be a good friend. It is beautiful to see them together, their bond is strong. Jean is an answer to prayer and is Derek’s miracle dog.
Thank you to all that have donated to NEADS on behalf of Derek. If you are interested in helping to support Derek please consider a 100% tax deductible donation to the NEADS program.
