Assistant Medical Coordinator (Part-Time)


PART-TIME, NON-EXEMPT

MAJOR OBJECTIVE:
Ensure that the healthcare of all dogs within the NEADS program is of the highest quality

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years experience as a certified veterinary technician with good understanding of veterinary fundamentals
  • Understanding of puppy/dog behavior and learning as it intersects with health issues
  • Excellent organizational and communications skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Experience in breeding, whelping, and weaning is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Assist with oversight of veterinary care for program dogs including collaborating with trainers, kennel personnel, prison liaisons, veterinarians, and puppy raisers.
  • Provide medical advice and support to all involved in caring for program dogs
  • (including after hours on-call).
  • Develop and facilitate medical care plans for program dogs.
  • Provide routine medical care including, but not limited to, administration of medications, vaccinations, and fluids.
  • Maintain database of veterinary care of dogs, report data as requested or needed.
  • Develop new and/or expanded veterinary relationships for donated or discounted services.
  • Manage veterinary supply inventory, veterinary budgets, and related invoices.
  • Educate clients, staff, and NEADS partners re: veterinary issues
  • Prepare and deliver dog health record packets to new clients when matched with dogs;
  • conduct classes educating clients on dog health issues
  • Be well versed in NEADS program offerings, history, and overall Mission

Kennel, Early Learning Center & Nursery Attendant

Qualifications:

  •  Good knowledge of canine behavior and husbandry skills; experience whelping litters of puppies a strong plus
  • Must have strong attention to detail and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and proactively
  • Must be flexible to changes in daily routines
  • Must work well with others and be teamwork oriented
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Follow all established NEADS protocols, procedures, and policies
  • Responsible for the thorough sanitation of NEADS facilities (kennel, play yard, ELC, training areas, etc.) including:
    • Proper disposal and surface cleaning of puppy and dog elimination
    • The use and application of approved chemical products
  • Responsible for reading all important daily information prior to action
  • Responsible for properly preparing and feeding meals and snacks
  • Responsible for properly distributing and recording all medications
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of dogs, including but not limited to:
    • Reporting all health issues to the Veterinary Coordinator immediately
    • Maintaining safe living conditions for all puppies and dogs
    • Providing canine enrichment
  • Must develop and maintain canine handling skills approved by NEADS Training Staff
  • Complete medical, kennel, and ELC paperwork thoroughly and properly
  • Assist with Kennel and ELC intake and exit procedures for puppies and dogs
  • Bathe and groom dogs as needed
  • Assist with all other necessary daily operation tasks as needed
  • Interact in a professional manner with all staff, volunteers, clients, and visitors
  • Be well versed in NEADS program offerings, history, and overall Mission
  • Provide feedback, suggestions, and ideas for continued improvement to daily operations
  • Communicate clearly and appropriately

Puppy Program Assistant/Kennel & Early Learning Center Attendant (Full Time)

POSITION OVERVIEW: NEADS is looking for a versatile, high energy, professional to fill a unique full-time position. This role will aid in the Weekend Puppy Raiser Program. A successful candidate will have the ability to work weekends and travel regionally. This position will assist Weekend Puppy Raisers in building the foundation of socialization for NEADS pups in training. Additionally a suitable candidate will contribute as an attendant in the Kennel and Early Learning Center assisting with all necessary daily operations tasks. As part of the on-boarding for this position the successful candidate will undergo an in depth training process with our Training Staff; as such, this position requires investment and a long-term commitment. The preferred candidate will have relevant experience with strong group teaching skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Group teaching and/or coaching experience with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Basic knowledge of dog behavior and proper dog socialization
  • Experience coordinating and interacting with volunteers in a non-profit environment; including excellent problem solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues in real-time
  • Self-motivated, hardworking, accountable, reliable, and well organized
  • Must have strong attention to detail, communication skills, and technology skills
  • Ability to work independently, proactively, and flexible to changes in daily routines
  • Must work well with others and be teamwork oriented
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in an indoor/outdoor environment year round.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must have the ability to work during weekends, after typical business hours, and travel regionally to areas surrounding our prison facilities.
  • Responsible for scheduling, organizing and conducting weekly puppy raiser classes and field trips for assigned prison programs.
  • Lead training sessions, solve socialization issues, and communicate across several layers of the program.
  • Review and file, raiser applications, waivers, communication sheets, field trip level sheets, and perform clerical duties related to puppy raisers.
  • Communicate with raisers about evaluations, medical issues, and match related information.
  • Assist with new raisers home visits, first time pick-ups, and first time field trips.
  • Conduct Weekend Puppy Raiser orientations and attend Puppy Raiser Council meetings.
  • Ability to pass a CORI background check.
