Program:
Minimum Goal: $8,000 | Amount Raised:$6,802

For more than 11 years, I, Tamela Manhart, have worked with victims of domestic violence and sexual crimes in Bannock County, Idaho. As the Victim Witness Coordinator, I have witnessed the effects that the court system can have on children, elderly, vulnerable adults and others that have faced the long and sometimes frightening moments in the courtroom as part of the navigation through the legal system.

In 2016, I traveled to WA to attend a multiple day conference on the benefits that Courthouse Facility Dogs can offer to these victims, especially child victims of sexual abuse. I was amazed! I knew it was something I wanted to move forward with, on behalf of all the innocent children, adults and the families that these types of crimes have an everlasting effect on.

I recently received a phone call, that I have been paired with a Courthouse Facility Dog from NEADS, which trains World Class Service dogs in Princeton, MA. After I travel to their campus in mid-April and train with my new partner for nearly two weeks, I will bring him back to Pocatello, Idaho with me.

This new, specially trained two year old Labrador retriever will accompany me every day to the Bannock County Courthouse, offering comfort and support to the serious crime victims I meet with on a daily basis. His ability to have a calming and supportive effect will benefit so many victims. Some of the supportive situations the dog will be engaging in include, being with a child during their forensic interview, where they share their story of abuse and tell some very personal details of their traumatic experience, or giving someone the courage to face their offender and testify at a trial. My new partner will be a positive addition to our prosecutor’s office, which will be only the third county out of forty-four in Idaho to offer this incredible resource!

The cost of training a dog for this specialized type of work is over $42,000, but I have been asked to raise $8,000, which goes to NEADS. I am currently looking for sponsors that will help me meet that goal. Any donation you or your business make is tax deductible, and greatly appreciated.  Thank You in advance for your kind consideration.

*NEADS clients pledge to raise a minimum of $8,000 for the organization, thus allowing us to fulfill our mission of placing Service Dogs with individuals who benefit from them the most.  Each donation ensures that NEADS will continue to change lives with our World Class Service Dogs.
