Meet our son Timothy! Timothy is a happy and energetic 9-year-old boy. He was born with autism. Autism makes life…interesting. Before preschool he was accurate to a 1/16th note on the drums. After playing with his grandmother’s piano for a few minutes, he began playing music from memory. He also knows a lot of facts about airports, animals, geography, and math.
At the same time, navigating through this complex world with autism is an incredibly difficult task. He has worked incredibly hard over the years and made remarkable progress. However, Timothy continues to struggle managing his emotions, overcoming anxiety, and developing friendships with peers.
Two years ago, Timothy went to Build-A-Bear with his grandparents and made a stuffed dog he named “Puppy”. Although he had never shown much interest to stuffed animals before this, he quickly became very attached to Puppy. He began communicating his feelings and struggles both to and through Puppy. After observing this, along with his joyful interactions with our friends’ and family’s pets, we began investigating a social dog to help Timothy regulate his emotions and provide companionship.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. NEADS invests a lot of time, energy and money into training their dogs well, and they ask clients to raise a small portion of the total cost. Big or small, your contribution will make a difference in Timothy’s life. All contributions are tax-deductible and 100 percent of all donations go directly to the NEADS program. Thank you!
On our donation form, pick the name of the client you want to sponsor under the Program Menu and check whether or not we can share your contact information with the client. Client fundraising totals are manually updated weekly (not automatically) which allows 100% of each donation to be allocated towards each client’s fundraising goal.
