Hey! My name is Tyler and I have Spina Bifida, which has had me wheelchair bound my entire life. Don’t think for a second I’ve let that slow me down, though. I’m an avid sled hockey player, and use my personal experience and disability to help children in similar situations learn to embrace who they are and the fun that team physical activity can give! I do my best to never let my physical disability slow me down, though some things are just too physically difficult to perform on my own.
It was for this reason that I applied for a NEADS service dog, and I was thrilled to have been accepted in June 2017. While I already push myself to the max in everything I do from hockey to cross-fit to Bar Trivia (hey, that stuff gets intense!), I am incredibly excited to see how much further I can go with the help of a highly trained service dog. With the help of a NEADS dog to deal with the mundane situations of helping me pick things up to opening the 75 pound, lead-filled sound proof doors at work (You think I’m joking, but I’m really not… Being a professional audio engineer comes with certain challenges you don’t really plan on…), I’ll be able to push myself that much further, leaving me with the energy and emotional fortitude to do things people have always told me are impossible for someone like me to do.
Most importantly, though, this NEADS dog will help me in my efforts to help children like me come to terms with their situations and help them overcome. Though my own experiences, I can teach them how to do the best that they can; add in the comforting power of a dog, and you can help even the most scared or dejected kid out of their shell and give them the tools they need to be a warrior in this world no matter what their disability.
Unfortunately, the cost of this service dog is too great for me to afford on my own, so I ask you from the bottom of my heart to consider donating towards my cause. Not only are you helping me, but you’re helping all of the children I mentor and my community as a whole.
I thank you deeply for your consideration and any donation you are willing to make.
*NEADS clients pledge to raise a minimum of $8,000 for the organization, thus allowing us to fulfill our mission of placing Service Dogs with individuals who benefit from them the most. Each donation ensures that NEADS will continue to change lives with our World Class Service Dogs.
On our donation form, pick the name of the client you want to sponsor under the Program Menu and check whether or not we can share your contact information with the client. Client fundraising totals are manually updated weekly (not automatically) which allows 100% of each donation to be allocated towards each client’s fundraising goal.
