Meet that Raiser – Barbara Laderman

Name: Barbara Laderman
Occupation: Accounting Manager at BJ’s Wholesale Club, Inc.
Prison: MCI Framingham
Current Pup: JD, 7 mos old

How long have you been a Weekend Puppy Raiser and how many dogs have you raised? (Include furloughed dogs and the one you are currently raising).

JD is my 7th puppy.

What led you to Weekend Puppy Raising?

I love dogs but don’t have time during the week to have my own full time dog, so I found this program and it suits my needs perfectly.

Ice Breakers

If you had one extra hour of free time a day what would you do with it?

  • I would cook a really good meal.

Would you rather be able to speak all foreign languages or talk to animals?

  • I would rather talk to animals.

If you could visit one place in the world where would it be and why?

  • Australia – I have never been there before because it is so far away!

Are you a listener or a talker?

  • I am a listener.

Tell us your favorite part about being a Weekend Puppy Raiser or your favorite memory with one of the NEADS pups.

  • My favorite part of being a weekend puppy raiser is that I can take the puppies everywhere I go, whether it is to the mall, to the grocery store or to church or sometimes to my office. People’s faces light up when we walk toward them and it so nice to be able to brighten their day for just the slightest amount of time that we spend with them, engaging in very little conversation. It helps that these puppies are so well mannered. I am very proud of the way that NEADs selects these puppies to enter the training program and feel very privileged that I am able to help someone who truly needs assistance with their daily tasks.
