Current Pup: Tucker, 5 months
How long have you been a Weekend Puppy Raiser and how many dogs have you raised? (Include furloughed dogs and the one you are currently raising).
Tucker is my first dog.
What led you to Weekend Puppy Raising?
I was working with a client who was incarcerated at MCI-Norfolk and saw how much NEADS and raising the dogs there truly changed everyone’s lives for the better. It gave my client purpose, happiness, and comfort. I thought, wow, this program gives so much meaning to the lives of the Weekend Puppy Raisers, the incarcerated individuals, and whomever the puppy will serve in the future! I was also missing having a dog in my own life, so I had to get involved.

Michelle Obama, Sonya Sotomayor, and my mom
If you had one extra hour of free time a day what would you do with it?
Write poetry.
Would you rather be able to speak all foreign languages or talk to animals?
I would love to talk to animals BUT I would have to say speak all foreign languages because I also love to travel.
If you could visit one place in the world where would it be and why?
The next place on my bucket list is the Northwest Territories in Canada. I really want to see the Northern Lights, learn more about indigenous culture, and experience the northernmost part of my home country!

Tell us your favorite part about being a Weekend Puppy Raiser or your favorite memory with one of the NEADS pups.
My favorite part about being a Weekend Puppy Raiser is being constantly amazed by how brilliant and hardworking the puppies are. When we are out in public, surrounded by food and exciting smells and people and other dogs, Tucker will just look up at me with his puppy dog eyes, waiting for a command, and it makes me so happy and fulfilled knowing that he will do that for someone who needs him one day. Snuggling up on the floor to watch a movie at the end of a big day is pretty fun as well.
