Meet the Raisers – Kathy and Colleen

Names: Kathy and Colleen
Occupations: Nurse and High School senior
Current Pup: Casey

How long have you been Puppy Raisers and how many dogs have you raised? (Include furloughed dogs and the one you are currently raising).

My mom and I have been puppy raisers since March. Casey is the first puppy that we are raising and it has been a great experience so far!

What led you to Puppy Raising?

Our family loves dogs and has had pets for 17 years. We have been without any dogs for 3 years and the house is so quiet without them. We were interested in puppy raising because it seems like a great way to help change the lives of others while also having the joy of a puppy in our home for a year.

Ice Breakers

If you could choose any two famous people to have dinner with who would they be?
Kathy – I would want to have dinner with Michelle Obama. I truly believe you can’t be sad if you are dancing and singing. Michelle Obama’s “Let’s move” Initiative had children smiling all over the world. I would love to hear about her experience with the kids.

Colleen – I would choose to have dinner with Michael Phelps because I am a competitive swimmer and he is a very accomplished olympic swimmer. I would love to meet him and hear his knowledge about the sport of swimming.

If you were a dog, what breed do you think you would be?
We would be Newfoundlands. They love the water and relaxing just like us!

Would you rather explore outer space or the bottom of the ocean?
We would rather explore the ocean.
Kathy – I always say I want to be reincarnated as a dolphin or a whale.
Colleen – Scientists have little knowledge about our oceans. I would love to see all of the unique species of animals that live in the depths of the oceans.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor and ice cream topping?
Kathy – Butter Pecan, carmel sauce
Colleen – Black Raspberry, rainbow sprinkles

What would your superpower be and why?
Kathy – Elemental Control to stop global warming.
Colleen – I would want the power to freeze time. Time is always moving too fast and it would be great to pause my days to take naps.

Tell us your favorite part about being Puppy Raisers and/or your favorite memory with one of the NEADS pups.
Our favorite part about being Puppy Raisers so far is seeing Casey’s progress as he learns new skills. Every week Casey is excited to learn new things and it is super cute to see him get excited about mastering them!
